Las Fallas is also about ninots, the colourful, giant caricatures of various famous personalities and political figures, which are paraded through the streets, often reflecting what goes on and makes news in the nation and in the region.

La Tomatina: Even before you get an opportunity to enjoy the fiesta in Valencia, you could possibly guess what La Tomatina is all about from its very name. Held in the town of Buñol, which is hardly 40 kilometres to the west of Valencia City and along the Buñol River, the idyllic town comes to life in all its vibrancy with the onset of la Tomatina.

This is literally war that goes on in the town centre, with the only difference being that arms and ammunition tend to be replaced with tomatoes. The tomatoes are just one reason why you would enjoy the fiesta in Valencia. Held in August every year, you could see young women and men up in arms, crushing specially harvested tomatoes and throwing them on one another. The festival also involves participants competing for ham tied on a long vertical pole. Be there at Buñol, Valencia, to experience the fun for yourself.
